Every entrepreneur has times when we hit that emotional wall; when, despite our hard work, self-belief and determination, we encounter hurdles or bumps in the road that rattle us and cause us to lose momentum. Such challenges have the potential to take us totally off track if we allow them. And sometimes, when our energy or motivation is low or flagging, we just need a boost of inspiration to re-charge us and power us on our way to better things – a more hopeful and successful future.

Nothing ever quite prepares you for the entrepreneurial road: it’s a journey that very few have strength to take and the tenacity to continue. And as well as dealing with your own life and business pressures, as a responsible business leader, you need to support, inspire and motivate others – your team, your contacts, your family or your community. Many people rely on you, within your organisation and outside it. But this is what it is to be an entrepreneur: it’s a responsibility and life-choice that has you – and other people – asking more of yourself, day on day. With that said, you also need to identify some support for yourself – whether from a coach, mentor, role model or through reading and learning.

To nourish my mind and spirit in times of need, I find it extremely helpful to draw upon words of wisdom from the very people I look up to. Whether they are thought leaders, successful entrepreneurs and businesspeople themselves, experts in their field, motivational speakers or simply skilled writers – we can derive great value from their inspirational or thought-provoking soundbites. Their words often provide us with exactly what we need, when we need it.

Having gained hope and sustenance from wise words myself, I felt compelled to put together a list of 25 entrepreneurial quotes that will both inspire and motivate you, compiled from the world’s leading thinkers, speakers and achievers. Read them, contemplate their meaning, and allow yourself time to absorb each one:
