For many entrepreneurs and successful people, that spark from a defining moment of realisation that lights their way often comes from an inspiring book. Many of the world’s leading entrepreneurs and elite performers will attribute their early motivation to a lifechanging book that affected the way they saw the world. Being gifted with a new perspective from that moment on, they approached life in a completely different way – with a different attitude and understanding of what was possible. You could even call it ‘enlightenment’ – and it leads to transformation.

There is no doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t fallen in love with personal development. Earlier on in my career, I realised the true value of self-education by consuming reading material (books, blogs, podcasts and articles).  In one of my recent articles, I shared the titles of 19 books I had read over the past 18 months, many of which are inspirational books written by the likes of Gary Vaynerchuck and Ryan Holiday – considered to be gurus in the marketing and personal branding fields. If I had not read their material, I’m 99% sure I wouldn’t have fully understood the value of blogging my journey, sharing my insights and experience – and I definitely wouldn’t be writing this article late on a Sunday evening, sitting outside in my garden to escape the chaos of the house and kids, trying to gather my thoughts! But through the wisdom I have acquired from reading all manner of self-help and entrepreneurial books, I know it’s a necessity.

Amongst this ever-growing expanse of personal development material, a few books instantly stand out from the crowd. I believe it’s no exaggeration to say that they literally have the power to change your life forever. The lifechanging books I include in this list all have an underlying theme that goes way beyond your everyday run-of-the-mill self-help book. They all resonate on a deep spiritual level. And as airy-fairy as it might seem – they speak directly to your inner being. If you let them. Open yourself to their message, and certain books on this list will speak a deep truth you will receive at a heartfelt level, which only reinforces their authenticity.

What many fail to realise is that entrepreneurship is a spiritual act. As entrepreneurs, we are able to manifest and create in a god-like fashion: we create the reality we want to see; which derives from applying spiritual principles we are not even conscious of. Understanding and elevating our spiritual knowledge is even more important than learning growth-hacking and investment strategies – because if you get the spiritual elements right, all else is redundant because everything will move to you effortlessly.  It makes sense to work smarter, not harder!

What you’ll learn within the inspiring books I am sharing will help you to move towards this new life. Here goes:

●The Alchemist – Paul Coelho. Written almost as a fairy-tale, this simple story has profound meaning in its symbolism and soul-fulfilling wisdom. On the surface, it’s about a shepherd boy who goes on a journey across countries to find treasure, but discovers greater treasure within himself. Deep, deep transformational learning in an easy-to-read form – this book has a global following of people who have been deeply moved by its message.

●The Celestine Prophecy – James Redfield. Told as a story of one man’s spiritual journey, giving nine insights which form profound life lessons – even more vital during the current pandemic. Some of the key lessons are to embrace synchronicity (coincidence or serendipity); connect with other people; reconnect with nature; let go of the past, and – most important for entrepreneurs – determine your mission and focus on spiritual growth rather than economic growth.

● The Surrender Experiment – Michael A Singer. The true story of what happens when one man decides to experiment with giving up on struggling with life and to just ‘go with the flow’ rather than trying to force things to happen. Following a spiritual experience, he decides to ‘surrender’ to life. Unimaginable opportunities come his way, and he offers us an alternative way of living our own lives, stress-free.

● The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari – Robin Sharma. An inspirational story told as a business fable. This book gives step-by-step guidance for living with greater balance, joy, abundance and courage. It echoes aspects of Sharma’s own life and follows the character of a lawyer, Julian Mantle, who is in spiritual crisis because of his unbalanced life. He goes a life-changing journey and learns powerful, practical lessons that we can all learn from. Amazing food for thought and action.

● The Miracle Morning – Hal Elrod. A fantastic productivity book with a difference. The subtitle is: ‘The 6 Habits That Will Transform Your Life Before 8am’ – and it really does what it says on the cover. This life-changing book gives you practical guidance on developing a regular morning routine that will increase your effectiveness, efficiency, energy and outcomes. Imagine waking up to your full potential every day – feeling motivated and focussed!

The books in this list are paramount to my personal growth and spiritual development, helping me to achieve a greater sense of purpose and an understanding of universal laws. They have also given many other people profound insights – as they can do for you. You can then begin experiencing the wonder and magic of life. After all, isn’t this what we are ultimately searching for?
